About this Rule

This competition rule and its target were created for AIRSOFT SPOTTER, inspired by the the SCSA Steel Challenge competition rules. The content of this rule significantly differs from the official SCSA rules. For the official SCSA competition rules, please visit the SCSA official page.

The Steel Challenge, organized by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA), is a shooting competition that tests speed and accuracy. This competition involves shooting down fixed steel plates as quickly as possible, and it has gained popularity for its simple yet exciting format.

The Common Rules

Equipment

  • Handgun, including revolvers
    • Sights: Any sights are allowed
  • Holster

Targets

Tokyo Marui Pro Catch Target. It doesn't matter where you hit as long as it's inside the ring.

However, since this competition involves short-range target, high-velocity airsoft guns are not recommended.

Positions

Standing, start from a hands-up position with the handgun holstered.

Courses of Fire

10 feet. One shot. 5 strings.

Stage Procedures and Range Commands

  1. Start Position

    The gun must be holstered. Hands are to be held in the "surrender" position with wrists and hands above the shoulders and fully visible from behind. The safety of the handgun must be applied (including trigger safety) or, on a revolver, the hammer must not be cocked.

  2. Range Commands

    • "Make Ready": The competitor must face downrange and prepare their firearm. The competitor must then assume the required start position.

      • Sight Pictures: Sight pictures (sighting shots) can be taken during the Make Ready process and while preparing for the next string.
    • "Stand By": This command should be followed by the start signal within 1 to 4 seconds.

    • "Start Signal": At the audible start signal, the competitor begins their attempt at the course of fire.

    • "Stop Signal": The competitor must immediately cease firing.

Scoring

The shooting time from the start signal until the target is hit will be your score. It does not matter where you hit within the circle. The lower the score, the better.

The best four out of five strings will be counted as the total score.

Maximum Time

The maximum time allowed for an individual string is 3 seconds.

Handling of Excessive Shots

In this competition, you can take as many shots as needed until you hit within the target circle. If multiple hits are made, the score of the last hit will be recorded.

Handling of Early or Late Shots

The maximum time of 3 seconds will be counted as the score.
